Can you give me a summary?

AI is everywhere. We keep being told how great it is. One of the key selling points I keep hearing about is that you can ask it to give you a summary of things. A post, an email or a book are just some examples. Is this really helping you though, or are you missing out doing this?

I think it’s fair to say that we have an obsession with speed and ease at the moment. Everything happens so fast, we have so much to do and people expect so much. It’s only natural that we’ll be drawn to shortcuts. We simply don’t have time, and instinctively turn to technology. Our obedient and unquestioning servant.

Just think about what you might miss when you stop using a summary as a simple preview. When you take a shortcut like this, who or what decides what’s important and what can be discarded?

Often, reading an entire post or a book can be a rewarding experience. One we’ll remember. One that can’t be summarised or perhaps more accurately, cut into small pieces. I think it’s so important that we all think about what we might be missing with this obsession to summarise.

I’ll leave it to you to think about this. Work out where you can find the right balance.
